Region 3 Assignment ... MYANMAR

Have you ever heard about Ang San Suu Kyi? Where was she born?

Right now, my presentation is related to the country where Ang San Suu Kyi was born, exactly in Myanmar. Myanmar is located in Southeast Asia. European countries only recognize Burma, but Asian Countries identify Myanmar; the reason is because in 1989, the Myanmar’s government changed the name of Burma to Myanmar (they didn’t want to use the name that was given by British Colonies), also they changed the capital city from Rangoon to Yangon.

The interest things about Myanmar are:

1. Myanmar is smaller than Texas, but bigger than Afghanistan

2. If you go to Myanmar, you can’t use your credit card (you should bring cash)

3. You should register your modems, computers, and fax to the Government if you do not want to go to Jails (They have set up this policy since 1996).

4. Myanmar is the unique tourist place because they have a lot of unspoiled beaches and the greatest pagodas in the Asian countries.

5. Most people like to breed Burmese cats because they have unique furs such as blue, lilac, ginger, and black.

6. Myanmar’s people usually use traditional shampoo to treatment their hair and to clean their house from evil spirit.

7. Myanmar’s documentary became the winner in the 2010 for the best feature. You can watch “Burma VJ”.

8. The biggest religion in Myanmar is Buddhist. I read the article that informed if you are non Buddhist; you can’t join to army or get government jobs. Therefore, most Muslims in Myanmar have immigrated to Bangladesh. Also, most villages were destroyed if you are non Buddhist ( a lot of pressures and tortures for non-Buddhist)

9. Myanmar has a lot of festivals. Every month, they celebrate for two or three festivals. The unique and best festival is in April, Water Festival. However, in April 15 2010, most people were died because there were several bombs were placed in the festival areas.

10. Myanmar is the second ranked of the biggest Opium in the world. People recognize this country as “Golden Triangle”. Even though this country has a lot of money from Opium, but the infrastructures and health in Myanmar are totally broken and weak.

11. There are many cases of abusing human right especially in speech, labor hours, religion, press and etc.

Uzbek... ^-^

Uzbekistan

The meaning name of Uzbekistan is a landlocked republic in west central Asia. According to CIS countries, Uzbekistan is the 5th largest area and the 3th largest population. Uzbekistan is very famous of Cotton and Gold. Therefore, when every country has struggled in economic crisis, they haven’t had any problems until now because their natural recourses like Gold supports in Uzbekistan’s finance.

About climate, you do not have to worry because Uzbekistan’s climate is continental, so you can do a lot of activities from trekking camels, watching birds, going skiing, and rafting. I found information about travel safe in Uzbek, some articles inform that you can't use sparkling jewel and if someone says to you that you find money, you have to ignore it. Also, before you eat fruits, do not forget to peel the skin.

Another interesting information that I got from article is you will not only find Uzbek, Armenian people there, but you will also find ethnic Korean people who have lived there since 1937 because of immigrations that Stalin did. Therefore, for transportation, Daewoo, Korean Company, is in charge and responsible for producing cars in Uzbek.

Even though this country is really great and big, but it lacks of laws and freedoms. There are a lot of tortures, arbitrary arrests, street violence, and etc. On Augustus 02, 2005, Islam Karimov abolished capital punishments, but the problem of laws are still increasing.

The main language is Uzbek, but you can use Tajik in some areas… However, there is a prohibition in Uzbek that you could not teach Tajik for youth people. About Uzbek’s religions are 90% Muslim and 5% Russian Orthodox Christian. The structure of building in Uzbek is affected by religion. Therefore, you might find a lot of buildings look like mosques.

The famous tourism places in Uzbek are in Bukhara, Samarkand, and Tashkent. If you interest in visiting my beloved country, I hope you don’t wishy-washy a lot and hurry up to package your baggage :) … You will not be disappointed, I guarantee that. It is because Uzbek is very famous of Silk Road. Also, besides you can visit Uzbek, you can go traveling to other countries such as Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, and Kazakhstan (these countries border Uzbekistan) by a bus, a car, a train or something else. It is easier to cross to other countries from Uzbek because the Silk Road that Uzbek has, it makes everything easier and fast to reach out other countries in the Middle East.

As usual, here is my reference for the place and famous people in Uzbek that you should know:

Oh yeah, one more things that I almost forgot, the meaning of Uzbek’s flag are:

Blue represents sky / water

White represents holy / peace

Green represents nature

Crest moon symbolizes historical

Stars (12) represent ancient calendar cycle of sun

Red stripes symbolizes power
